Edgar Stanley “Boone” Elgan, 96, of Shelbyville, Indiana formerly of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 2: 00 a.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville, Indiana.May 2012

Boone was born January 29, 1916 in Greene County, Indiana the son of Emit and Ethel Rainbolt Elgan. He married Lenice Harms on June 19, 1937 in North Vernon, Indiana. She survives.
Boone retired as a security guard in 1982 from the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville, Indiana after 16 years; he also worked for the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corp) for several years and was with the North Vernon Police Department for 4 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church in North Vernon, Indiana. He was a former member of the North Vernon Masonic Lodge, Red Man Lodge in North Vernon, Indiana and had umpired for the North Vernon City Park. He enjoyed sports and his poodle “Corki”.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Lenice Elgan of Shelbyville, Indiana; his daughter, Kay Stamper and her husband Marvin of Shelbyville, Indiana; a brother Estel Elgan and his wife Pat of Linton, Indiana; two grandchildren, Christina Hurst and her husband Donny of Shelbyville, Indiana and Hal Stamper and his wife Julie of Sanford, North Carolina; six great-grandchildren, Ryan Wolfe and his wife Rachael of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, Emily Wolfe, Eric Wolfe and Tyler Wolfe all of Shelbyville, Indiana, Zachary Boone Stamper and Andrew James “A.J.” Stamper both of Sanford, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Earl, Ernest, Elmer, Edward and Emery Elgan; five sisters, Esther Mathena, Evirta Elgan, Edith Higgins, Eunice King and Elta Wonder.
Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon, Indiana with the Rev. Bill Bravard officiating. Friends may call at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 3718 East Blue Ridge Road, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176, on Friday, May 25, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in North Vernon, Indiana with members of Matt Hester Post #2021 providing military graveside rites
