Stephen Lloyd Franklin, 55, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, Indianapolis.
Born Nov. 12, 1949, in Shelbyville, s/o  Orville Lloyd “Popeye” and Ruth Irene (Grigsby) Franklin.
Married  Janet McColley  on June 6, 1970, and she survives.
Other survivors:  mother, Shelbyville; two brothers, Joseph R. Franklin  and  Thomas J. Franklin, both of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his father and one sister, Alfreda “Alfie” Franklin.
Lifelong Shelbyville resident.
Employed at VTI since 1992.  Previously had been employed at Kentucky Fried Chicken, working in Shelbyville on several different occasions starting at the age of 14, and as a manager, in Urbana, Ohio, from 1974 to 1977
U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a sergeant.  Received several awards and served as special military guard for President Nixon and former Senator Jackson from Washington State.  Discharged in 1973.
Graduated in 1968 from Shelbyville High School and attended John Herron Institute and Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis.
Avid oil painter, pianist and photographer.

Orville Lloyd "Popeye" Franklin, 77, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, March 21, 2004.
Born July 28, 1926, Shelbyville, s/o  Sherman Franklin  and Joyce Fern (Harbaugh) Riley.
Married  Ruth Irene Grigsby  on Sept. 5, 1946, and she survives.
Other survivors:  sons, Joseph R. Franklin,  Stephen L. Franklin  and  Thomas J. Franklin, all of Shelbyville; sister, Hildreth Spencer (husband, Elmer)  of Shelbyville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by one daughter, Alfreda Franklin; two brothers, Herbert Franklin  and  Sherman Franklin Jr.; and one sister, Mary Joyce Smith.
Lifelong Shelbyville resident.
Employed at Indiana Cash Drawer for 19 years, retiring in 1979.  Previously was employed at Stites Studio for 19 years.
U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.  Received American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, four stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Victory Medal.  Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home, 819 S. Harrison St., with Chaplain Brian Trotter officiating.  
Interment:  Forest Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by local service organizations.

Alfreda “Alfie” Drake Franklin, 56, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, Beech Grove.
Born Nov. 17, 1946, in Shelbyville, d/o  Orville L. and Ruth (Grigsby) Franklin.
Survivors:  parents, Shelbyville; son,  Rick Drake (wife, Christy) of Taylorsville; three brothers,  Joseph Franklin,  Stephen Franklin and  Thomas Franklin, all of Shelbyville; and four grandchildren,  Andy Drake,  Elizabeth Drake,  Eric Drake  and  Abby Drake, all of Taylorsville.
Preceded in death by one son, Scott Drake, and one daughter, April Drake.
Homemaker.
Member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; Flat Rock Eastern Star; Democratic Club, where she was president; and the auxiliaries of Shelbyville Moose Lodge, Eagle’s Lodge, and American Legion.
Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Rev. Virgil Clotfelter officiating.
Burial:  Forest Hill Cemetery.
