Mrs. James Gatewood Succumbs
at Home Folowing Illness of
One Year

          Mrs. Fannie Gatewood,  71, wife of  James E. Gatewood,  died at her home south of Fountaintown at 7:30 a.m. today, following an illness of one year.  Death was due to complications.
          Mrs. Gatewood was born in Shelby county, February 16, 1868, the daughter of  John and Rachel Smith,  and spent her entire life in Shelby and Rush counties.  She and Mr. Gatewood marked the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding New Years eve.
          Survivors besides the husband are one daughter,  Mrs. Inez Hendricks,  south of Carthage; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; six sisters,  Mrs. William Rafferty,  south of this city;  Mrs. Elizabeth Sandefur,  Carthage;  Mrs. Anna Duncan,  Greenfield;  Mrs. Jap Nigh,  Carthage;  Miss Julia Smith  and  Mrs. Oscar Ostermeyer,  north of Fountaintown; two brothers,  Roy Smith,  Greenfield, and  Ira Smith,  near Fountaintown.
          She was a member of the Christain Science church of Shelbyville.  Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the late home.  Burial will be made in the Liberty cemetery in charge of L. V. Hauk.

Death Occurred To Well-Known Retired Farmer
and Civil War Veteran

Funeral Service Thursday

          Oscar J. Gatewood, a well known retired farmer and civil war veteran, living at 26 East South street, died this morning at five-thirty o'clock.  Death was caused from a complication of diseases.  Mr. Gatewood was born in January, 1840, his age being 83 years.  The deceased was the son of William and America Gatewood, pioneer residents of Shelby county.  He was a member of Company A., 16th Indiana Regiment and leaves only one survivor of this particular company, Monroe Goodrich, who lives in this city.  Mr. Gatewood is survived by the wife, Mrs. Mary Gatewood, one brother, Charles Gatewood of this city, a sister, Mrs. Amanda Silvers, of Iowa, besides a nephew, Everett Gatewood, who has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Gatewood since a small boy.  He was married to Mary E. Johnson, on September 30, 1874. She is also a native of Shelby county.  He was a member of the Dumont Post No. 18, of the G.A.R. of this city.  Funeral services will be held at the late home at two o'clock on Thursday afternoon, the Rev. O. M. Livengood, pastor of the First Christian church, officiating.  Interment will be made in Forest Hill cemetery, R.J. Edwards in charge.

Died Friday Evening at His Home
Northeast of Shelbyville

          Lemuel Gatewood, seventy-five years old, a native of Shelby county, died Friday evening at his home, three and one-half miles northeast of Shelbyville, after a long illness.  He was attacked with paralysis last December and had been confined to his home since.  The second stroke was suffered by Mr. Gatewood this week.  Mr. Gatewood was born in Shelby county, November 30, 1840, on the farm on which he was living at the time of his death.  His wife died twenty years ago.  Mr. Gatewood was a charter member of the Pleasant Hill church.  Mr. Gatewood held the original deed to the farm which he owned and which was secured from the government.  This farm was transferred to Mr. Gatewood by his father, many years ago, this being the only time this farm was transferred since Mr. Gatewood's father received his deed from the governemnt.  The deed is written on sheep skin.  He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Will Gordon;  four sons, John,  James,  George and  Thomas Gatewood and one brother, Oscar Gatewood of this city.  The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two O'clock at the home, the Rev. C.A. McCullough, of Morristown, officiating.  Burial will be made in Forest Hill cemetery.

At Her Home In West South Street

Funeral Will Be Held Tuesday

          Mrs. Carrie Gatewood, wife of  Charles Gatewood,  died at her home No. 321 South Street, Saturday evening at six-five o'clock.  Her death was caused by lung trouble with which she had suffered for the past year.  For several months Mrs. Gatewood had been confined to her home and during the last few days her death was known to be near.  Near relatives were at her bedside when death occurred.  Mrs. Gatewood was a daughter of the late  Henry and Elizabeth Walker.  She was born in this county February 21, 1861, and at the time of her death was aged fifty-three years and sixteen days.  She had resided in Shelby county practically all of her life and was well known to a number of Shelbyville and Shelby county people.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian church here.  Mrs. Gatewood also held membership in the Ben Hur, Wheat Sheaf, Degree of Pocahontas and the Royal Neighbors lodges.  She is survived by her husband, one daughter,  Mrs. Charles Zeigler, of Indianapolis, by a former marriage, three brothers,  Harry and  Fred Walker of this city, and  William Walker, of Illinois; one sister,  Mrs. Gertrude Harris, of Clarinda, Iowa.  She was married to Mr. Gatewood October 21, 1903.  The funeral services will be held at the late home Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev. Earl R. North, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating.  Burial will be made in Forest Hill cemetery in charge of Stewart & Fix.  Friends may call at the home this evening from seven until nine o'clock and Tuesday morning from nine o'clock until the hour of the funeral.

          America Gatewood  died at the home of her daughter,  Mrs. William Klare, 195 East Washington street, at 4:30 this morning.  She leaves two sons and two daughters.  She was 81 years old.  Time and place of burial will be announced later.  Edwards & Hageman are in charge.

          William H. Gatewood  died at 3 o'clock this morning at his home one mile east of town aged 74 years, his death being caused from dropsy.  The deceased was born in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1814, and came to Shelby county in 1819.  He was married to America Jones in 1837.  Thirteen children were born unto them, six of whom are living, among the number being Oscar Gatewood of this city.  The funeral servicves will be held at the house on Wednesday at 2 o'clock, the Rev. John Reece officiating.  The interment will be at Forest Hill by Cummins & Edwards funeral directors.
