DIES  SHORTLY  AFTER  PASSING  OF  WIFE

          Just twelve days after the death of his wife, Robert Helms, widely known lifelong resident of Shelby county, died at his home in Brandywine township on State Road 29 at 3:30 o’clock this morning following a serious illness of five days. He had been in declining health for the past several months.
Mr. Helms was 76 years old yesterday. The family has the deepest sympathy of a large circle of friends in their double sorrow.
          The deceased was born in Brandywine township February 28, 1858 and was united in marriage to Miss Priscilla Ann Thurston on July 22, 1882, fifty-two years ago. They had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago.
          Three children were born to the union, two of whom survive. They are Charley Helms, Shelbyville; Mrs. Bert McKinney, of Brandywine township. Mrs. Virgil Schultz, another daughter, died in 1926. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Amanda McNew, of Lebanon, and several nieces and nephews.
          Mr. Helms had been a member of the Brandywine M.E. church for the past forty-five years and funeral services will be held there Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock with Rev. W.A. Ryland officiating.

Two Children Survive Robert Helms, 76, Who Died 12 Days After death of Wife

          Twelve days after the death of his wife, Robert Helms, 76, died at his home in Brandywine township, on State road 29, near the Brandywine church, at 3:30 o’clock this morning, following a five days’ serious illness.  He had been in failing health for the past few months.
          Mr. Helms was born in Brandywine township, February 28, 1858, and on July 22, 1882, he was married to Miss Priscilla Ann Thurston.  Two of the three children born to this union survive.  Mr. Helms had been a resident of Brandywine township all his life except two years of which he spent in Tipton county.
          One son, Charles Helms, of this city, and one daughter, Mrs. Bert McKinney, of Brandywine township, survive the deceased, besides the nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Amanda McNew, of Lebanon, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.
          This is the third death in the family in the past month, the grandchildren having lost their three grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Helms and Theodore Schultz, who passed away in February 6.
          Funeral services will be held at the Brandywine church, of which, Mr. Helms had been a member for the past forty-five years, Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, with the Rev. W. A. Ryland, pastor of the church, officiating.  Interment will be made in the family lot in the Fairland cemetery in charge of C.F. Fix & Son, funeral directors.  Friends may call at the late home at any time.

FUNERAL  TODAY  FOR  MRS.  ROBERT  HELMS

          Funeral services for Mrs. Priscilla Ann Helms, wife of Robert Helms, who died at her home in Brandywine township Saturday, were held at the Brandywine M.E, church this morning with Rev. W.A. Ryland officiating.
          Mrs. Helms’ death, which followed a week’s illness of uremic poisoning, is the cause of deepest sorrow to hundreds of friends throughout the community, where she was deeply loved by all who knew her.
          The deceased was the daughter of Benjamin and Perlina (Reed) Thurston and was born in Marion township December 23, 1862, being at the time of death seventy-two years, one month and twenty-five days of age. She had resided in the county throughout her lifetime. On July 22, 1882, she was united in marriage to Mr. Helms, and to this union three children were born, a daughter, Mrs. Virgil Schultz, passing away March 6, 1926. The surviving children are Charley Helms, of this city, and Mrs. Bert McKenney, of Brandywine township. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Gilmore Thurston, of California; two half-brothers, Henry, of Terre Haute, and Elwood Thurston, of Elwood, Indiana; two step-brothers, Leroy Skillman, of Fairland, and William Skillman, of this city; a niece, Mrs. Fred Jones, of Rush county, and a nephew, Fred Pope, of this city.
          Mrs. Helms had been a member of the Brandywine M.E. church for the past forty-five years and was active in the aid society of the church as long as her health permitted.

Husband and Two Children Survive Mrs. Robert Helms, Who Died Saturday A.M.
DEATH  FOLLOWS  STROKE

          Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Brandywine M.E. church for Mrs. Robert Helms, who died Saturday morning at 10:30 o’clock at her home near the Brandywine church in Brandywine township.  The Rev. W. A. Ryland officiated and burial was made in the family lot in the Fairland cemetery in charge of C.F. Fix & Son, funeral directors. Death was caused by hardening of the arteries and uremic poisoning, followed by a stroke of paralysis.
          Mrs. Helms was born in Marion township December 23, 1862, the daughter of  Benjamin and Perlina Reed Thurston, being at the time of death 72 years, 1 month and 25 days old.  On July 22, 1882, she was married to Mr. Helms and to this union three children were born.
          Besides the husband, the deceased is survived by one son, Charles Helms, of this city; one daughter, Mrs. Bert McKenney, of Brandywine township; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Gilmore Thurston, of California; two half-brothers, Henry, of Terre Haute and Elwood of Elwood, Indiana; two step-brothers, Leroy Skillman, of Fairland and William Skillman, of Shelbyville; one niece, Mrs. Fred Jones, of Rush county, and one nephew, Fred Pope, of this city.
          The deceased had been a member of the Brandywine M.E. church for the past forty-five years, and was also a member of the Brandywine Ladies Aid.  Mrs. Helms had been in failing health for the past year.
