Billy Joe Hoesman, 75, of Indiana 7 died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2001, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
He retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1983 after 32 years service. He worked as a self-employed electrical contractor for many years. He enjoyed archery and raising horses.
Mr. Hoesman was a member of Flintwood Wesleyan Church. A World War II Marine Corps veteran, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion and chaplain for the Columbus Marine Corps League. He was a member of Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Moose Lodge and was past worshipful master of Elizabethtown Masonic Lodge.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vernon Jewell-Nick Rittman Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold Carr and Kevin Metz officiating. Calling hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday. A Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Hoesman was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Columbus, the son of Julius and Lillian Anderson Hoesman. He married Elizabeth Hope [sic-Pope].* She died in 1984. He married Jane Smith Sept. 27, 1985. She survives.
Other survivors include sons, Royce Hoesman of North Vernon and Tim Blevins of Bedford; daughters, Barbara Hull of Magnolia, Texas, and Jane Ozbun of Seymour; brothers, Dorsey Hoesman of Tulsa, Okla., and Tom and Jim Hoesman, both of Riverside, Calif.; sisters, Betty Coulter of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Julia Martin of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Justin, Cassie and Curtis Hoesman, Jerimiah, Joshua and Zachary Hull, Justin and Ryan Ozbun, and Christopher and Amanda Blevins; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mikel Hoesman; an infant brother; and an infant sister.

Elizabeth M. Hoesman, 54, of 11001 E. Ind. 7, died at 5 a.m. today at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after a lengthy illness. She was a graduate of the House of James Beauty College and had owned the Chateau Beauty Shop at Seventh and Washington streets. She retired from the Vogue Beauty Shop about two years ago because of ill health. Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Wayne Bozell at 11 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home on Washington Street. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. Thursday until time of the service. A Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Mrs. Hoesman was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Bartholomew County, to Floyd and Goldie Drake Pope. She was married to Billy Joe Hoesman Nov. 15, 1947, and he survives. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a charter member of Lowellettes Extension Homemakers Club.
Surviving besides her husband are a son, Royce Hoesman of 10520 E. Ind 7; one daughter, Barbara Hull of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Ralph Pope of California, Emil Pope of Franklin and Robert Pope of Kokomo; three sisters, Elsie Wood of Clifford, Margaret Ward of Columbus and Ruth Taylor of Columbia, Ky., and four grandchildren.
