Carolyn Sue Horstman, 77, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at IU Health-Arnett Hospital after an extended illness. Carolyn was born March 13, 1940, in Bedford, to Howard Sullivan and Hazel Silvers. She was raised in Bloomington, graduated from Bloomington High School as the prom queen, and married the prom king, Joe Horstman. They had two children, Joe Jr. and Jeff. They settled in Shelbyville for 32 years and moved to Lafayette in 2005. Carolyn is preceded in death by her youngest child, Jeff; and her sister, Wanda Sciscoe.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Horstman; son, Joe Jr. (wife, Susan), of West Lafayette; brother, Ike Martin (wife, Carol), of Bloomington; grandson, Ben Horstman (wife, Melissa), of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandson, Alex Schlaifer, of Arlington, Virginia, and Rachel Schlaifer, of West Lafayette. She will be missed by her family and her beloved Siamese, Layla and Su.
Graveside service will be at a later date in Bloomington. Soller-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jeffery Horstman, 51

Jeffery Scott Horstman, 51, of Lafayette, died at Regency Place Tuesday, July 19, 2011, after an extended illness. Born July 14, 1960, in Bloomington, he is the son of Joe and Carolyn Horstman of Lafayette. He resided in Shelbyville for 25 years, graduating from Shelbyville High School in 1978, and attended Butler University majoring in music composition. He moved to Lafayette in 2004 and became an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church music department. He played piano for the Contemporary Band of Emanuel United Church of Christ and composed several Christian music CD?s and an Easter Cantata. He also entertained residents of local nursing homes playing piano and singing over the last few years.
Mr. Horstman was an accomplished musician and song writer with many original CD's to his credit. He arranged and recorded his own music and assisted many others with getting their music out into the world. He traveled the east coast with a touring show band for several years. His band "Make Believe" performed on Star Search in the mid 1980's. He was a lead pianist for five years at Boggstown Inn and Caberet. He played the entertainment circuit for Ramada and Holiday Inns in Indiana for many years.
Surviving besides his parents is a brother, Joe Horstman Jr. (wife: Susan), of West Lafayette. Also surviving are a nephew Benjamin Horstman, stepnephew, Alex Schlaifer and stepniece, Rachel Schlaifer, all of West Lafayette; Aunt Wanda Sciscoe (husband: Jack) of Oldsmar Fla., Aunt Catherine Snoddy (husband: Bob) of Bloomington and Uncle Ike Martin (wife: Carol) of Bloomington. Jeff was preceded in death by both paternal and maternal grandparents Fred and Clora Horstman and Hazel (Silvers) East (husband: Dorance).
A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, located at 6th and North St. downtown Lafayette, on Sunday, July 24 at 2:30 p.m., Pastor Linda Dolby presiding. Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or St. Elizabeth Hospice of Lafayette.
