Funeral services will be held ... at the Ewing Mortuary for  Alfred C Howe, 77, who died ... Sunday at his home, 719 First St. ...   Mr. Howe suffered a stroke three weeks ago ...  He had resided in Noble township until moving to this city in 1947 and was a carpenter.  He had been employed at Camp Atterbury and Ray-Glo Corp.  Born in Noble township on Nov. 15, 1881, he was the son of  Reece  and  Roanna Howe.  He married  Bernice (Monroe) Toothman  in Shelbyville on June 21, 1922, and she survives with a stepson  Kenneth Toothman  of Geneva, two [step] grandchildren and one [step] great-granchild. ... Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.

Notes: Reece Howe mentioned here is  Reason Howe  (1827-1901), Noble Twp. farmer, whose first wife was  Martha Ann Mitchell  (1834-1867).  His second wife was  Roanna (Hawkins) Osborne  (1838-1920). 'Reece' Howe was the father of six sons, three by each wife, and no daughters.  According to Reece's great nephew, George W. Mitchell (1877-1959), 'Alf' was the last living descendant of Reason Howe.

Jesse M. Howe, 69, Dies
At Home; Rites Thursday

          Jesse M. Howe,  69, lifelong resident of Shelby county and employee of the Shelbyville Desk Company, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Shelby township at 3:10 this morning.  He had been in failing health for several years.  A retired farmer, Mr. Howe was a member of the Lewis Creek Baptist Church and of Local No. 270 Union of International Upholsters.  He was born in Noble township September 15, 1863, the son of  Uriah and  Elizabeth (Gillespie) Howe.  His marriage to  Anna Monroe  took place on May 16, 1914, and she survives with a brother,  Charles Howe,  of this city, and a nephew,  Raymond Howe.  A son preceded him in death.
          Last rites will be held at the Sleeth Funeral Home Thursday at 2:00 p.m.  Revs. Raymond Rissler and R.C. McNeely of Milan will officiate and burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.

WIFE  OF  LOCAL  OFFICIAL  DIES

Mrs. C. F. Howe Succumbs At Rural Home

          Mrs. Gertrude E. Howe, age sixty-four, wife of  Charley F. Howe, Shelby county commissioner, died at her home in Washington township at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.  She had been in failing health for several years and bedfast for the past 14 weeks.  Death was due to a complication of diseases.
          Born in Vincennes on July 14, 1882, Mrs. Howe had spent the greater part of her life in Shelby county and was a member of the Lewis Creek Baptist Church, the Flat Rock Order of Eastern Star and the Rebekah lodge of Waldron.  She was the daughter of  Thomas J. and  Alice (Coleman) Steffy.
          Marriage to Mr. Howe took place in this city in 1900.  He survives with a son, Raymond R. Howe, Shelbyville; a brother, Joe Steffy, of Bloomington; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Pope, of Lafayette, and  Mrs. Catherine Miskell, of Detroit, Mich.; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
          Funeral services will be held at the Lewis Creek Baptist Church Friday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. R. C. McNeely officiating.  Burial will be made in the church cemetery in charge of Charles M. Ewing.  Friends may call at the Ewing mortuary after 2:00 p.m. Thursday.

NOBLE  TOWNSHIP  PIONEER  DEAD

Mrs. Roanna Howe, Born In This County in 1838,
Died Friday Morning.

WILL  HOLD  FUNERAL  SUNDAY.

          Mrs. Roanna Howe, widow of the late Reason Howe, died at her home in Noble township, 1-1/4 miles east of the Cave, at nine o'clock Friday morning.  Mrs. Howe suffered through an illness of two years.  She was a life-time resident of Shelby county, having been born in Washington township on November 1, 1838.  At that time that portion of the country was still largely in woods, the cultivated fields being few, and not large.  Her husband died on November 23, 1931.  The surviving members of the family are  Mrs. Philip Peak  and  Alfred Howe, daughter and son, who live with their mother,  Mrs. Emanuel Conover, of Washington township;  Mrs. William Marshall, of Marietta, and  Mrs. James Hogan, of Boggstown, are half sisters.  A half brother is  William Hawkins, of Howard county.  The parents of Mrs. Howe, were  Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hawkins, who were pioneers of the county and long since dead.
          When she was a girl Mrs. Howe united with the Floyd Christian church located east of the Cave.  In that organization she was a faithful communicant until one year ago when she transferred her membership to the Geneva M. E. church.  She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters of Geneva and this lodge will participate in the funeral services.  The funeral will be conducted at the Floyd church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. Burkher officiating.  The interment will be in the church cemetery in charge of Mrs. Mary M. Tindall.
