ANOTHER  PIONEER  PASSED  AWAY  FRIDAY
----------
Mrs. Mary C. Keppel, Aged 92 Years
Dies At Her Home in Union Township
------------
From Friday's Daily - - -
Another one of Shelby county's pioneers passed away in the death of  Mrs. Mary C. Keppel, which occurred at one o'clock, this morning, at the home of her son,  John W. Keppel  in Union township, after an illness of two weeks' duration.  The immediate cause of death was flux.
Mrs. Keppel was born in Maraheim, Germany, November 10, 1814, making her at the time of her death ninety-one years, ten months and eleven days old.  When about sixteen years of age she came to this country with her parents.  Her maiden name was  Baker.  The Bakers landed in New York City, then went to Fort Dearborn, which is now Chicago, but was then only a trading post, and then moved to Cincinnati, by means of wagons thru the forests, where for many miles not even a foot-path was visible.  The Bakers lived in Cincinnati two years and then moved to Union township, this county.
On November 10, 1836, she was united in marriage to  George Michael Kepple,  who preceded her to the Great Beyond, December 9, 1876.  To this union was born ten children, six of who are still living;  Mrs. Mollie B. DePrez  of this city,  John W. Kepple  of Union township,  Mrs. Louisa Nagle  of Mexico,  Mrs. Caroline White  of near Fowler, Indiana,  Mrs. Elizabeth Boots  of Greenfield, and  Mrs. Theresa Sells  of Matthew, Indiana.
Her husband entered the section of land on which both he and Mrs. Kepple lived the remainder of their lives.  Here with the nearest neighbor eight or ten miles away, they started housekeeping in a little log cabin, which is still on the farm, although not having been used as a place of habitation for many years.
Mrs. Kepple, although advanced in years, retained her mental faculities to a remarkable degree.  She loved to tell her children and grandchildren of the time, many years ago, when she and her husband rode through the woods to a justice of the peace and came back to their little cabin, man and wife.  What wonderful progresses Mrs. Kepple was permitted to see.
All of the children were at the bedside at the time of her death with the exception of  Mrs. Nagle, who lives far away in Mexico.
Funeral services will be held at the late residence, Sunday afternoon at one o'clock, the Rev. Dr. G.G. Winter officiating.  Interment in the German cemetery, in Union township.  D.B. Wilson & Son in charge.
