Gertrude M. LaBarbera, 92, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Heritage Manor. Born Oct. 21, 1914, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth (Oldfield) Banta. She married Vic LaBarbera in 1941,* and he preceded her in death in 1996.
Survivors include two nephews, Dennis Banta of New Orleans, La., and Don Banta of Phoenix Ariz.; and caregivers, Harold and Mabel Wilgus of Shelbyville. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Maurice Banta.
Mrs. LaBarbera was a lifelong Shelbyville resident. She had been employed with the Mary Lou Shoppe for eight years and also had been a seamstress for many years. Mrs. LaBarbera graduated from Shelbyville High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or First Baptist Church, in care of Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Victor F. LaBarbera, 87, Shelbyville, died Saturday at his home. He was born July 5, 1908, in Shelbyville, the son of Samuel and Rosa (Palma) LaBarbera. On Dec. 6, 1941, he married Gertrude (Vanta) [sic--Banta], and she survives.
Mr. LaBarbera was a lifelong resident of Shelbyville. He worked for 25 years as an agent at Metropolitan Insurance Co. of Indianapolis. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic church, Shelbyville Elks Lodge 457, American Legion Post 70, Metropolitan Retirees Association and a former member of the Shelbyville Eagles Lodge.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Due to a reporter's error, Gertrude (Banta) LaBarbera's name was spelled incorrectly in an obituary for her husband, Victor F. LaBarbera, in Monday's edition.
