Twelve-Twenty O’Clock Sunday Morning

Complication Of Diseases Caused Death

            Alexander Lennox died at twelve-twenty o’clock Sunday morning at the home of his son,  Jesse Lennox, four and a half miles southeast of this city in Shelby township.  Mr. Lennox had been seriously ill with a complication of diseases for some time and his condition had been critical for the past week.
             Mr. Lennox had been a life long resident of this county and was exceptionally well known.  He was born December 24, 1837, and was the son of  Joseph  and  Mary Lennox.  He was married September 20, 1860 to  Miss Mahala Amos.  She died May 11, 1905.
            Four children were born to Mr. Lennox and his wife, two of whom survive.  These are  Mrs. Nora E. Clapp, of this township, and the son at whose home he died.  Five grandchildren and three sisters survive.  The sisters are  Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, of Connersville;  Mrs. Mary Murphy, of Crawfordsville, and  Mrs. Permelia Howe of Washington township, this county.
            The deceased was a member of the Lewis Creek Baptist church, joining some forty-six years ago.  He had been interested in church work and had held several church offices.
            Funeral services will be held at two-thirty o’clock Tuesday morning in the Lewis Creek Baptist church.  The Rev. S. Holmes Wood, pastor of the church, will officiate.  Burial will be made in the Lewis Creek cemetery.  No flowers.

           William Lennox, an old soldier and well known over the county, died at the home of his nephew, Otto House, this afternoon at 2:20 o’clock, aged sixty-nine years, ten months and fifteen days.  He leaves one brother and three sisters.  He had been in poor health since last March, but had been able to up and around until the last two weeks, when he took to his bed never to rise again.  Mr. Lennox had lived in Shelbyville the last eleven years, and had lived in the county all his life.  He spent fourteen years in Shelby township where he lived with his mother.  After her death he lived there awhile and finally moved to town.  The cause of death was diabetes.  Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

            The funeral services of the late William Lennox will be held at the Lewis Creek Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30.  Rev. Scull will officiate.  Interment in Lewis Creek cemetery.

            Mrs. Mahala Lennox, wife of Alex Lennox, died at their residence yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock of paralysis.  She was sixty-six years old.  She leaves a husband and two children, Mrs. Chas. Clapp and Jesse Lennox.  Funeral services will be held at Lewis Creek Baptist church Saturday at 11 o’clock in the morning.  Rev. G. W. Jayne will officiate.  Interment in the Lewis Creek cemetery.  R. T. Stewart in charge.

           Mary Lennox died at her residence in Shelby township at eleven p.m. Friday, November 6, 1896, of typhoid fever, at the age of eighty years, three months and twenty days, after an illness of several weeks.  She was one of the oldest settlers of this county, having moved here with her parents in 1825.  She is the widow of the late Joseph Lennox, who preceded her some twenty-four years ago.  Unto them were born ten children, seven of who survive her.  The funeral services were held in the Lewis Creek Baptist church at eleven a.m. Sunday, November 8, 1896, Rev. Harper, of Columbus, officiating.  Remains and cortege in charge of Marshall G. Tindall.
