The Rev. Ralph E. Mayo, 87, of St. Paul died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Heritage House Convalescent Center. Born Jan. 29, 1921, in Surgoinsville, Tenn., he was the son of William R. and Clara M. (Dingledine) Mayo. He married Clista Price on July 26, 1940, and she preceded him in death on April 6, 2003.
Survivors include his son, Lavell Oather (Mary) Mayo of Indianapolis; daughters, Clara Leotta "Lee" Sherley and Sara Catherine Mayo, both of Shelbyville; brother, Harley Mayo of Bargersville; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marcella Fern Oglesby; brothers, John, George and Charles; two infant sisters; and great-granddaughter, Lauren R. Miner.
The Rev. Mayo had lived in the St. Paul area since 1965. He had previously lived in Orleans. He was an ordained minister for 35 years and retired in 1988 from West Side Wesleyan Church. He also pastored at Milford Mission and in Sanford, Rising Sun, Wheatland, Gnaw Bone and Orleans. He also was a self-employed carpenter for many years and built several homes in this area throughout the years. The Rev. Mayo was a member of West Side Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed gardening and loved to travel and spend his winters in Florida.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at West Side Wesleyan Church, 535 Dunn Ave., with the Rev. O.W. Willis officiating, assisted by the Revs. Corliss Dees and Darrell Bowden. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery in Decatur County. Memorial contributions may be made to West Side Wesleyan Church or Trinity United Methodist Church, in care of Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Clista Ellen Mayo, 83, of St. Paul died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Heritage Convalescent Center. Born March 21, 1920, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Edward Oather and Olive (Thurston) Price. She married Ralph E. Mayo on July 26, 1940, and he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Lavell O. Mayo of Indianapolis; two daughters, Lee Sherley and Sara C. Mayo, both of Shelbyville; one sister, Luella Huckleberry of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Marcella F. Oglesby, and one great-granddaughter, Lauren R. Miner.
Mrs. Mayo was a lifelong Shelby County resident. She was a homemaker and pastor's wife. Mrs. Mayo graduated in 1939 from Tech High School. She was a member of Westside Wesleyan Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Westside Wesleyan Church, 535 Dunn Ave., with the Revs. Marvin Hughes, Corlis Dees and Jeff Curry officiating. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery in Milford.
