Elizabeth "Libby" Spiegel Perkins, 94, of Boca Raton, Fla., died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008. 
Born April 8, 1914, in Chicago, Ill., to  John and Elizabeth Hall.
Married  William Sorden Spiegel, he died in 1978.
Married  Adm. Charles Perkins, and he preceded her in death in 1989.
Survivors:  son,  John W. Spiegel (wife, Karen) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Atlanta, Ga.;  daughter,  Margaret S. Dawson (husband, Edwin) of Columbus;  grandchildren,  Robert Spiegel (wife, Monica) of Birmingham, Ala.,  John Spiegel (wife, April) of Charlotte, N.C.,  Bradley Spiegel  (wife, Leslie) of Macon, Ga.,  Edwin Dawson (wife, Darla) of Cincinnati, Ohio,  John Dawson (wife, Melanie) of Minneapolis, Minn.,  Bradley Dawson of Chicago, Ill., and  Martha Shepherd of Atlanta; and six great-grandchildren.
Family moved to Shelbyville in 1915, where they located their family furniture manufacturing company; moved to Boston, Mass., while her first husband attended Harvard School of Business; returned to Shelbyville.  Moved to Boca Raton after the death of her husband in 1978.
Member of Woodstock Club in Indianapolis; Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club in Boca Raton; Little Club and St. Andrews Club, both in Delray Beach; and Smith College Alumni Club.
Avid golfer hitting a hole-in-one at age 86.  Greatly enjoyed playing bridge competitively and socially and won many tournaments. With longtime companion,  Reed Taylor, loved traveling and visiting with friends.
Loving mother and grandmother and wonderful hostess.  Loved to entertain and warmed people's hearts with her great sense of humor and lively spirit.  Positive outlook was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Memorial services:  Kraeer Funeral Home, 1353 N. Federal Highway in Boca Raton.

Thomas Roland Perkins, 96, 2309 South Miller, died Monday, Heritage House Convalescent Center, Shelbyville.
Son of  Lonza and Sarah (Burge) Perkins, born in Adair county, Kentucky January 12, 1895.
Married  Hester R. (Phender) Perkins January 1940; she preceded him in death in 1972.
Survivors include sons,  Lushion Perkins, Edinburgh,  Edward Perkins, Ottawa, Illinois,  George Perkins, Edinburgh,  Russell Perkins, Port Clinton, Ohio and  Orval “Toby” Perkins, Italy; daughters,  Mrs. Arthur (Nellie) Sluter, Marseilles, Illinois,  Mrs. William (Lucielle) Matterson, Cannelton, Indiana,  Mrs. Clarence (Naomi) Riley, Marseilles,  Mrs. Joseph (Ida) Elliott, Shelbyville,  Mrs. Larry (Kathy) Bryant, Rome, Indiana,  Lila Mae Perkins, Marseilles,  Mrs. Landon (Cleo) Brown, Waldron, and  Mrs. James (Josie Ann) Dyer, Mew Whiteland;  sisters,  Minnie Holt, Shelbyville, and  Lillie Knight, Franklin; brothers,  Ezra Perkins, Marseilles, and  Arthur Perkins, Kentucky; 54 grandchildren; 79 great grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Murphy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joseph Smith officiating. Burial will be at Miller cemetery

R.L. Perkins Dies; Ex-Grocer

          Cremation is planned for  Robert L. Perkins,  81, of 4776 Tambor Court, a retired San Diego market owner who died Thursday in a hospital.  There will be no services.  Inurnment will be in El Camino Memorial Park under the direction of Cypress View Mortuary.
          A native of Indiana and a county resident for 55 years, Mr. Perkins owned Perkins Market at 28th Street and Ocean View Boulevard for 34 years before retiring in 1962.  He was a cofounder of Alfred M. Lewis Grocers Co. and a charter member of the San Diego Police Reserves.
          A life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 244 and a past president of the Southeast YMCA, he also was a member of the San Diego Retail Grocers Association and the Southeast Exchange Club.
          Surviving are two daughters,  Mrs. Helen F. Vermeulen  of Chula Vista and  Mrs. Darlene M. McCombs  of San Diego; a son,  Harold L.  of Lemon Grove; two brothers, including  Everett  of San Diego; nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

MRS.  LEROY**  PERKINS
DIES  IN  CALIFORNIA

          Services were held today in San Diego, Calif., for  Mrs. Leroy** (Marie**) Perkins,  75, who died Saturday* at 12:30 p.m. in a hospital in San Diego following a week's illness.  Mrs. Perkins was a former local resident and had moved to California in 1925.  Born in Shelby County April 12, 1897, she was the daughter of  Clarence and  Sarah (Young) Pope.
          Surviving with the husband are three children, and two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Opal Lusk and Mrs. Carrie Hudson, Shelbyville, and Russell** Pope. R. R. 5, Shelbyville.
Betty's notes:
    *  Although the date on the top of this typed copy of her obituary gives the publication date as June 24, 1972, I am not sure that is correct.  According to the California, Death Index, 1940-1997 that is the date she died.
    **  Both Marie and her husband (as well as her brother  Charles Russell)  went by their middle names.   She was officially  Myrel Marie Perkins  and her spouse was  Robert Leroy Perkins.
