OLDEST MAN IN COUNTY

John H. Pohlman Passes Away At Age of 98 Years

John H. Pohlman,
aged ninety-eight years, one month and eight days, and known as the oldest
resident in Shelby county, died at his home three miles east of this city
yesterday morning the result of apoplexy.
Deceased was born in
Eschende, Holland, in 1811, and on coming to the states he located in Baltimore,
where he remained for a short time. From Baltimore he walked to Cincinnati,
making the trip some time during in 1837. He resided in Cincinnati ten years,
after which he located in Franklin county, Indiana, where he was a resident
until 1872. In that year he came to Shelby county and made this county his home
until his death. He leaves a daughter-in-law and her two sons, Joseph
and
John, who are his only remaining relatives.
The funeral services
will be held Thursday morning at nine o’clock in the St. Vincent Catholic
church, the Rev. Father Kettler officiating. The interment will be in St.
Vincent cemetery in charge of D. B. Wilson & Son.
