------------
Mary Shannon, aged 64 years, died last night at 9 o'clock at her residence on South Tompkins street of inflamation of the bowels.  The time of the funeral is not set.  She was the widow of a soldier of the war of 1812 and died in destitute circumstances, the result of neglect on the part of relatives.  She was entitled to a small pension from the government but this her son drew and used up leaving his mother to die in want.  Squire Jones and  E. P. Ferris and other neighbors have been very kind to the old woman and made her last hours as comfortable as possible.  Her son and other relatives who permitted her to suffer deserve the scorn of every citizen in this town.
