Mrs. Helen Shonk
Dies at Hospital

Mrs. Helen Lucas Shonk, 44 years old, of Linton, died at 7:45 o'clock Wednesday night at the Freeman - Greene County Hospital. She had been ill since November, 1961, and in serious condition for eight weeks. Mrs. Shonk had spent most of her life in Linton and had been employed at the local General Electric plant when she became ill. She was born in Sullivan county on April 1,* 1918, the daughter of Joseph and Eveline Summers Lucas. She was a member of the Linton Assembly of God church.
Mrs. Shonk's husband, Chester Shonk, to whom she was married Aug. 14, 1934 [ERROR--1937], preceded her in death on May 4, 1949 [ERROR--1959]. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mary Kline of Linton, Mrs. Sarah Wautelet of Gary and Miss Elizabeth Shonk, at home; four sons, Joe Shonk of Columbus, Ohio, David Shonk of Fort Hueneme, Calif. and John and Paul Shonk, at home; two step-sons, Chester R. Shonk of Tremonton, Utah and Jack Shonk of Linton; a step-daughter, Mrs. Iris Jane Richards of Campbellsville, Ky.; two brothers, Harry Lucas of Flint, Mich., and Joseph Lucas of Indianapolis; one sister, Mrs. Wilma Smith of Indianapolis, and nine grandchildren.
Mrs. Shonk's body was taken to the Welch and Cornett Funeral home, where friends may call after 7:00 o'clock this evening. Funeral services will be held at the local Assembly of God Church at 2:00 o'clock Saturday with Rev. Paul Strietelmeier and Rev. Leonard Newell officiating, and burial will be made in Fairview cemetery. The body will be removed to the church at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Chester Shonk, 51,
Dies Unexpectedly

Chester Shonk, 51 years old, of Linton, died suddenly at 10:10 o'clock Monday evening while at the Arketex Ceramic Corp. plant in Brazil. It was reported that Mr. Shonk suffered a heart attack while at work with the second shift of the factory and died before medical aid could be summoned.
Mr. Shonk had been employed at the Brazil plant for the past five years. He was born at Linton on Aug. 25, 1907, and was the son of Noah and Mahala Higar Shonk. He was a member of the Linton Assembly of God church and held membership in Local No. 527 of the United Brick and Clay workers of America.
Mr. Shonk's first wife, Mrs. Cecelia Liddil Shonk, died Dec. 7, 1936. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Helen Lucas Shonk, to whom he was married Aug. 14, 1937; six sons, Chester R. Shonk of Houston, Tex., Joe, David, John and Paul H. Shonk, all at home, and Jack of Linton; four daughters, Mrs. Ray Richards, Mrs. Leland Kline and Mrs. Dave Wautelet, all of Linton, and Miss Elizabeth Shonk, at home; two brothers, Hughey Shonk of Linton route three and Daniel Shonk of Linton route one and six grandchildren, one child also preceded him in death.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Welch and Cornett Funeral home, where friends may call after 7:00 o'clock this evening. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Assembly of God church, with Rev. Harry Vibbert officiating, and burial will be made in Fairview cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at noon Friday.
