Darrell F. Shrader, 72, of Shelbyville, passed away June 22, 2017 at his residence. Born June 30, 1944 in Clifford Indiana, he was the son of Fred N. and Susie Marie (Key) Shrader. He married Sherry (Riley) Shrader on May 26, 1963 and she survives. Other survivors include: brother Wallace "Dub" Shrader (wife Cindy) of Shelbyville, sister Mattie Jo Asher (husband Don) of Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Louis C. Shrader and infant brother Autry Shrader.
Mr. Shrader had lived most of his lifetime in Shelby County and graduated from Waldron High School in 1962. He had been employed by the City of Shelbyville at the Shelbyville Municipal Airport for over 40 years, and for many of those years he served as airport manager. He was a member of Shelbyville Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall, (NAFI) National Association of Flight Instructors, (AOPA) Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and was on the Board of Directors of Aviation Indiana. From a very early age Darrell had a love for airplanes, and had logged over 18,000 hours as a pilot and instructor. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and listening to music.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday June 27, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with visitation there from 4:00 pm until the time of the service. Mike Clark will officiate, and burial will be in the Moravian Cemetery in Hope at a later date.
