"In failing health for the last 18 months, Christian Steinhauser, age eighty-one, one of Shelbyville's most widely known business men, died at 11:45 PM Sunday at his home at 232 West Broadway.  A native of Kentucky, Mr. Steinhauser had lived in Shelbyville for the past 60 years and had enjoyed a successful business career.  He spent the earlier years of his life in the jewelry business here and later organized the Monte Glove Company which became one of the communities leading manufacturing concerns.  At the time of his death, he was president of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association and of the Forest Hill Cemetery board.  He was also a member and former trustee of the First Presbyterian Church, the only living charter member of the local Elks Lodge and a charter member of the local Knights of Pythias Lodge.
"Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday at the Charles M. Ewing Mortuary with Dr. C. A. Bowler officiating.  Burial will be made at Forest Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ewing Mortuary at any time after 7:00 o'clock this evening.
"Mr. Steinhauser was the son of  John  and  Gretchen Kister Steinhauser* and was born at Newport, Kentucky on September 6, 1861.  On June 1, 1892 he was married to  Carros Lacy at Covington, Indiana, and to this union two children were born, both of whom survive along with the widow.  They are  Burton Steinhauser, in the theater business in Terre Haute and  Mrs. Frank Barnes  of Aurora.  Mr. Steinhauser's only brother, Albert, died last Friday at Newport, Kentucky and his son, Burton was en route to that city when Mr. Steinhauser died here.  Besides the widow and children, Mr. Steinhauser is survived by four grandchildren and a sister, Anna Steinhauser, also of Newport, Kentucky.
