Sylvania Swanigan Expires on Monday

          Mrs. Sylvania Catherine Swanigan, 74, expired at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert (Nora*) McIntyre, 355 East Tenth street, Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock.  She had been ill for two months and a complication of diseases caused her death.
          The deceased was the widow of  John Swanigan  who died seven weeks ago.  The couple had recently celebrated their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary.  She had resided in Rushville for many years coming here from Shelby county.  She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist church (in Noble Twp., Shelby Co.*).
          Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. McIntyre,  Mrs. Ben (Josie*) Manlief  and  Mrs. Chancie (Jenny*) Jinks of Connersville; two sons, Thomas Wesley  and  Walter Vanny Swanigan of this city; one brother, Newton Hendricks** of St. Cloud, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Elvira Phillippe* of Marion; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
          Private funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the McIntyre home with Dr. A. W. Jamieson in charge.  Burial will be made in East Hill cemetery.  Friends may call at the home after Tuesday morning.”

(2) John Allen Swanigan was half-brother to my great grandfather, William A. Mitchell of Noble Twp.
(3) Sylvania and Elvira Hendrickson were orphans who were raised in Noble Twp. by their grandmother, Nancy (Gregory) Hatton.
(4) Elza Van Swanigan is buried at Norristown, next to his mother, Sarah, and his grandmother, Lucy PeakLettie Jane (Brown) (Mitchell) Swanigan is buried at Floyd cem., near Geneva

“Resident of City 34 Years Expires

          John A. Swanigan, age 73, Rushville resident for 34 years, died at his home, 416 East Ninth street, at eight o'clock Sunday morning.  He had been ill a year and in a serious condition three months.
          Mr. Swanigan was born in Shelby county May 11, 1867, the son of  Elza* Van and Lettie Jane Swanigan.  He was married to  Sylvania Hendrickson*  August 30, 1885 and the couple celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary five years ago.  Mr Swanigan was a stock showman.  Before moving to Rushville, the family resided in Geneva, Noble township, Shelby county.
          Survivors are the wife; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Nora*) McIntyre of Rushville,  Mrs. Ben (Josie*) Manlief  and  Mrs. Chauncey (Jenny*) Jinks of Connersville; two sons, Walter B.  and  Thomas W. of this city; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
          Private funeral services will be conducted from the home of his daughter, Mrs. McIntyre, 344 East Tenth street, Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock.  The Rev. Sylvester Porter will officiate and burial will follow in East Hill cemetery.  Friends may call at the McIntyre home.”

          Mrs. Letta J. Swanigan,  of Noble township, died Monday at 2:00 a.m. aged 62 years, of blood poisoning.  Burial Tuesday at 2:30 at Floyd's cemetery, services by Rev. Gregory.  D. B. Wilson & Son, funeral directors.
