Thomas J. Wheeler, 82, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at Hospice of South Central Indiana, in Columbus.
Born Oct. 6, 1922, in Shelby County, s/o Thomas V. and Theresa (Thibo) Wheeler.
Married Alice Douglas on March 19, 1944; she survives.
Other survivors include five sons, Jim Wheeler (wife, Linda) of Carmel, Mike Wheeler (wife, Lynn), Tom Wheeler and David Wheeler (wife, Liz), all of Shelbyville, and Ed Wheeler (wife, Susie) of Morgantown; one daughter, Terri Nigh (husband, Kevin) of Shelbyville; two sisters, Mary Evelyn Thopy of Indianapolis and Jenny Snapp of Bloomington; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by two brothers, Herman Wheeler and John Kenneth Wheeler; and one daughter-in-law, Cindy Wheeler.
Indiana State Senator from 1977 to 1980. He also was co-founder of Wheeler Corp., Cave Stone Co., Shelby Gravel Corp. and Rushville Ready Mix.
Lifetime Achievement Award for Indiana Concrete Masonry Association.
U.S. Army-Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as first lieutenant in the China India Burma Theatre. He received the Air Medal and Flying Cross awards.
Graduated in 1940 from Waldron High School and attended Indiana Business College and Oklahoma Baptist University.
Member of P-47 Fighter Pilots Association; Library Foundation Board; Hospital Foundation Board; Rushville Chamber of Commerce; past president of Indiana Ready Mix Concrete Association and Indiana Concrete Masonry Association.
Lifetime member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church; 62-year member of Council No. 822 Knights of Columbus; St. Joe Social Club.
Former member and president of Shelbyville Lions Club and Shelby Eastern School Board.

John Kenneth Wheeler, 84, Shelbyville, died Jan. 23, Shelbyville.
Born Sept. 22, 1916, in Shelby County, s/o Thomas V. and Theresa (Thibo)
Wheeler. Married Thelma I. Reinhardt on June 11, 1941, and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, John K. Wheeler, Waldron; three daughters,
Jane Helbing, Indianapolis, Mary Anne Tracy, Memphis, Tenn., and
Pat Haehl, Shelbyville; one brother, Thomas J. Wheeler, Shelbyville; two sisters,
Jenny Snapp, Bloomington, and Mary Evelyn Thopy, Indianapolis; and six grandchildren.
Preceded in death by one brother.
1934 graduate of Waldron High School, a farmer and employed for 18 years at the State Bank of Waldron, where he served as vice president. He retired in 1984.
Member of Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Indiana Farm Bureau and St. Vincent Catholic Church.
St. Vincent Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul Landwerlin officiating.
Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery.

MRS. WHEELER
DIES IN HOSPITAL

Mrs. Stella O. Wheeler, 68, 469 W. Mechanic St., died at 1:00 a.m. Sunday at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. She had been ill for the past month and was hospitalized three weeks ago.
Born September 30, 1894, in Johnson County. Mrs. Wheeler was a daughter of Robert and Rachael (White) Alexander. On June 28, 1919, she married Chester Wheeler and he died in 1920. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Hosea (Julia) Moyer of this city, and one grandson.
Mrs. Wheeler, the last member of a fmaily of three, was an employe of the Indiana Bell Telephone Company of Shelbyville for 34 yeras and retired in 1956.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Carmony Funeral Home in Shelbyville, with Rev. James H. Horner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday.

Thomas Wheeler Found Dead
in Moral Township
----------
Thomas F. Wheeler,
56, R.R.1, Fairland, Moral township, was found dead in the basement of his home
on the Moral road at 9:20 p.m. yesterday.
County Coroner Dr.
James Tower stated that Mr. Wheeler died of a "self-inflicted
gunshot wound of the head" and said it came from a .22 caliber rifle also
found in the basement. The body was found by Mr. Wheeler's wife.
Dr. Tower established the
time of death at 8 p.m. and said Mr. Wheeler had been in ill health for several
months.
Survivors include his
wife, Esta; his father, Iva; a brother, William
of Florida, and two sisters, Mrs. Willard Bealor of New
Castle and Mrs. Norman Crone of Martinsville.
Funeral services will be
held at the Stirling Funeral Home in Acton at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Friends
may call after noon Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in
Martinsville.

Mrs. Margaret Wheeler, widow of Tilson M. Wheeler, died at the Major Hospital at 11:30 today, after being confined to the hospital for the past four weeks, following an accident in which her right hip was broken in a fall at her home on West Mechanic street.
The deceased was born in Illinois on January 8, 1850, being at the time of death 84 years, one month and seven days old. She was the daughter of Elisha and Julia Buckner. In 1882, she was united in marriage with Mr. Wheeler and to this union was born one son, Chester Wheeler, whose death occurred April 6, 1920.
Survivors are a granddaughter, Julia Wheeler, this city, her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Stella Wheeler, of Shelbyville; one step-son, Joseph Wheeler, of Hope, and anumber of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wheeler was a member of the Mt. Pisgah church, east of this city, whee funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be made in the Mt. Pisgah cemetery in charge of Charles M. Ewing, local funeral director.

Death of Well-Known Citizen
Occurs Early Today—Critical Two Days

Tilson J. Wheeler, age 47, well-known resident of this city died at 1:25 o’clock this morning at the home of his mother, Mrs. Ellen Wheeler, 422 West Franklin street. Mr. Wheeler was taken critically ill Saturday. Death was due to uremic poisoning and diabetes. Funeral services will be held at nine o’clock Wednesday morning at the St. Joseph Catholic church with the Rev. Father Rager officiating. Burial will be made in the St. Vincent cemetery in charge of Charles M. Ewing.
Mr. Wheeler was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Wheeler and was born June 14, 1880 on a farm east of this city, where he spent most of his life. He came to Shelbyville nine years ago. He was held in high regard and had many friends throughout the county. The deceased was a member of the St. Vincent Catholic church. He was especially devoted to his mother, with whom he lived. His father died twenty-four years ago.
Surviving besides the mother are three sisters, Mrs. Earl Kelley and Mrs. Russell Fleming of this city and Mrs. Will Huesman of Cambridge City and one brother, Thomas Wheeler of Shelby township.

Tilson M. Wheeler Died After
Lingering Illness --
Funeral Monday.

Tilson M. Wheeler, 73 years, 7 months and 25 days old, an aged and highly respected citizen of this city, died at his home, 464 west Mechanic street, this morning at 12:30 o'clock, following an illness of several years, caused from a stroke of paralysis, which he suffered in the year 1916.
Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Pisgah church Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and burial will be made in the church cemetery in charge of Chas. M. Ewing, funeral director.
Mr. Wheeler, until a few years ago, was engaged in farming and resided on a farm three miles east of this city. However, when his condition become such that he was unable to farm, he moved to this city, where he had since been a resident.
Mr. Wheeler was a devoted member of the Mt. Pisgah church, being one of the oldest members. He became affiliated with the church when 13 years of age. He was also a member of the Chillon Lodge, No. 129, Knights of Phythias, of this city.
He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Maggie Wheeler, one son, Jasper Wheeler, of this city; one brother, T. J. Wheeler, of West York, Ill., and six grandchildren.

OBITUARY

William Chester Wheeler, son of Tilson and Maggie Wheeler, was born in Shelby county, Indiana, July 17, 1889, and departed this life April 6, 1920, being at the time of his death, aged thirty years, eight months and nineteen days.
At the age of thirteen years, he was converted to the Baptist faith and became a member of the Mount Pisgah church, and at the time of his death a member of that church.
He received his early education in the common schools of Addison township, and entered the Shelbyville high school in 1903, graduating with the class of 1907.
In the fall of 1908, he entered the Indiana University School of Law and began his preparation for the practice of law; he was graduated from Indiana University with the Degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1913.
After his graduation he began the practice of his profession in the law office of Meiks & Hack of Shelbyville, later going to the state of Kansas. Upon his return from Kansas, he again practiced law in the office of Meiks & Hack, where he remained for some time. In September, 1916, he became associated with Elmer Bassett, with whom he continued to practice until November, 1917, at which time he was compelled to quit his profession on account of poor health.
He was a candidate for prosecuting attorney on the republican ticket in the election of 1918.
On the 28th day of June, 1919, he was united in marriage to Miss Stella Alexander, daughter of Mrs. Rachael Alexander, of Shelbyville, formerly of Franklin, Indiana.
He is survived by his widow, Stella Wheeler, and infant daughter; his father, Tilson Wheeler, his mother, Maggie Wheeler, and one brother, Jasper Wheeler, of this county.
William Chester Wheeler was a young man of exemplary character.
