----------
Dr. J. A. White, age forty-nine, Shelbyville dentist, died suddenly Wednesday morning at three o'clock at the Methodist Hospital, in Indianapolis.  His death was caused by a heart attack.  Dr. White had gone to the hospital several days ago, and had undergone an operation Monday for sinus trouble, with which he had suffered.
News of the death of Dr. White was received as a great shock in his large cotterie of friends and acquaintances through the city and community.  The body was brought here today and was taken to the home in West Washington street.
Dr. White was skilled in his profession, and had built a large practice during the twenty-five years he had maintained an office in Shelbyville.  He had graduated from the Indiana Dental College, at Indianapolis, and soon after his graduation had come to Shelbyville, and had opened his office.
He was native of Shelby county, having been born in Hendricks township, December 17, 1876.  His boyhood was spent in that township, and he had attended the Hendricks township schools.  He was married October 20, 1908, to  Miss Margaret Smith, daughter of  Mrs. Laura Smith.

FOLLOWED  AN  OPERATION

Had Been Confined to Methodist Hospital

Operation -- Died at 8 O'clock this Morning.
----------
\            Deep and sincere mourning today accompanied the shocking announcement of the death of  Dr. Joseph A. White, dentist here for many years, which occurred at 2 o'clock this morning at the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis.  Altho he had been confined to the hospital for the past few days, his many friends in this community were unaware of his critical condition and the announcement of his death was entirely unexpected.
He underwent an operation Monday for sinus trouble from which he had been suffering, but his death this morning was brought on by a heart attack.  Considerably weakened by the effects of the operation and his previous illness, his condition rapidly became serious and the attack was fatal.
Dr. White had practiced dentistry in Shelbyville during the past twenty-five years and was one of the best known men in the profession in this section of Indiana.  Unusually proficient in the requirements of his profession, he had built up an extensive practice in Shelby and adjoining counties and his time had been divided between his work, his family and the various organizations in which he was active.
He was a son of  Samuel and  Phoebe White, and was born Dec. 17, 1876 in Hendricks township, being at the time of death, forty-nine years, five months and nine days old.  He attended public schools in this community and was later graduated from the Indiana Dental College at Indianapolis.  Upon completing his training in his profession, he came to Shelbyville, establishing an office and beginning the practice which he continued until his death.
On October 20, 1908, he was united in marriage with  Margaret Smith, daughter of  Samuel and  Laura Smith.  Besides the widow, he is survived by a daughter, Miss Elizabeth Jane White, at home, his mother, Mrs. Phoebe White, of Franklin, Ind., and three brothers, John E White, of Chicago, Ill.,  Otis White  of Franklin, Ind., and  Carl White, of Stockton, Cal.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian church in this city, and was also affiliated with the Elks' club.  Dr. White was a man of pleasing manner, a valuable citizen and was active in church, fraternal and civic organizations.  The loss to the dental profession and the community is keenly felt and is the cause of sincere mourning among his hundreds of friends.
