In the name of God Amen  I,  Jehu Lane  of Shelby County Indiana being of sound mind and memory do make this my  last will and testament as follows

To wit:
First:  I will and bequeath to my beloved wife  Tabitha Jane Lane  all of my household goods that is now in and about the house that we now occupy including the sewing machine.

Second:  I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Tabitha Jane Lane all of my land where we now live to control and have the rents and profits of the same until  Marion Franklin Lane  my youngest child  arrives at the age of twenty one years.  I do this in order that my beloved wife may be able to raise and educate children  After my youngest child arrives at the age  of twenty one years I will then that my lands then be divided giving my beloved wife Tabitha Jane Lane one third of the lands and the balance of my land be divided equally between all of my children share and share alike    Araminta Jane Lane,   Judith Frances Lane,   Nancy Bell Lane,   James William Lane,  and  Marion Franklin Lane.

Third:  I will that in case my beloved wife should marry and refuse to maintain my children and then in that case I will that the land be divided as above, giving my wife one third and the reminder be divided equally between my children share and share alike.

Fourth:  I will that my beloved wife Tabitha Jane Lane have one cow, one heifer, and four hogs, the wheat that is in the Garner and two hundred bushels of corn.  The balance of my personal property I have advertised for sale which I will sell if living if not then I wish that my executor hereinafter mentioned sell the same with what wheat I have now on deposit.   I also have notes to the sum of seven hundred dollars in the hands of  Charles Lane  in West Virginia which I wish my Executor to receive when collected and all other outstanding debts due me.

Fifth:  It is my will and wish that my beloved wife pay all the tax on the land so long as she may have control and occupy the same out of the proceeds of the same after the year 1873 or out of the rents of the land.

I appoint my friend  Thomas J. Jones  as Guardian of all my children towit:
Araminta Jane Lane,  Judith Frances Lane,  Nancy Bell Lane,  James William Lane,  Marion Franklin Lane.   I also appoint my friend Thomas J. Jones as my Executor of this my last will and testament.

I wish that after the moneys due is all collected in and the necessary expenses settling my Estate that the remainder of the money remaining in the hands of the said Thomas J. Jones as guardian for my children be equally divided between them share and share alike.  I do revoke all former wills by me made.
