Irvin  W.  Trees



          Irvin W. Trees, M.D., Smithland, the son of  John K. and  Mary A. Trees,  was born in Liberty Township, January 19, 1851.  About 1856, his parents moved to Van Buren Township, where he remained with them on a farm until 18 years of age, when he removed with the to Warrington, Hancock Co., Ind.  He commenced studying medicine with  Dr. W. Trees,  of Warrington, and continued until the fall of 1873, when he left to attend the Medical College of Ohio during the term of 1873 and 1874.  In the spring of 1874, he commenced the practice of medicine at Smithland, in this county.  Sept. 30, 1875, he was married to  Lena E.,  daughter of  Edward and  Sarah J. Miller,  of Hendricks Township, where they now reside on a farm.  The result of this union has been the birth of two children --   Frank Herbert and  Henry Clarence.  Frank H. died Nov. 14, 1879, aged 2 years and 6 months;  Henry C.  died Nov. 2, 1879, aged 14 months.
          He attended the Medical College of Indiana, at Indianapolis, during the term of 1879 and 1880, where he graduated.  Dr. Trees' father is a native of Clermont Co., Ohio.  He was born Jan. 25, 1823.  His mother is a native of Fayette Co., Ind., and was born Nov. 11, 1827.  They now reside on a farm near Irvington, Marion Co., Ind.  Both are members of the Methodist Protestant Church.  In politics, the Doctor is a Democrat, and is liberal in his views on all subjects.  He is a self-made man, having paid how own way during the time he was preparing for his chosen profession, and he is now reaping the benefit of a lucrative practice where he is located, at Smithland, five and a half miles southwest of Shelbyville, on the Shelbyville & Smithland turnpike.  The Doctor is a member of the Alumni Sydenham Medical Society, class of 1880.
