Surnames: KING STUBBS

From: Sherry Mazzetti
29 Nov
2001
Want to know the relationship among the following KING individuals
listed in the 1850 census of Shelby Co.: Richard T. KING who is married to an
Elza (Elsa?); Elza KING (male); Elsie/Elsa (KING) STUBBS, the wife
of Zepheniah STUBBS; and Sarah (KING) MCDANIEL, the wife of James William
MCDANIEL. The last couple are my immediate ancestors. Think Richard
T. KING is either her brother or her cousin, but there are a lot of men named
Richard KING. I am nearly certain this is a second wife, and he married
the first in KY. Wonder if he might have had a married son named John.
I am less certain about the relationship with the others, but Sarah had a
brother and son named ELZA--not this one, and there is a church connection
between Zepeheniah STUBBS and my in-law KINNEY family. Any help
appreciated. I will share what information I have.

I am searching for information on the Strahl's and McFerran's of Shelby
County, IN. My great-grandparents were Levant and Elizabeth Ann
(Strahl) McFerran. They owned about 180 acres in or near
Marietta at the time Elizabeth's death in 1911. I have found a
newspaper clipping about Elizabeth Strahl's death and would like to find
information about the death of my great-grandfather Levant who died in 1905.
Apparently they were prominent citizens of Shelby County during that time but I
cannot find much in the way of records. I would like any information about
them you may have and would also like information about where their land was
located. I don't think their house is still there. I have also run

My grandfather, Walter Bissell, ran away from a Massachusetts
Boy's Home(c1917-1920)to Indiana to find his mother. Family lore has it
that he was picked up by the police and was court ordered to a Boy's Home.
Later (and this is fact, not hearsay): Walter was removed from the Boy's
Home by a (then) childless couple, Ray and Myrtle Spurgin to help
on their farm. I spoke to Ray and Myrtle Spurgin's oldest child (age 82)
this morning. She said my grandfather was taken from a Home in Shelbyville
and was living with her parents when she was born in 1921. Please contact
me if you know of this family.

I have
been trying to locate "Salathiel William Green Hays" (aka Hayes, Hase
Haze) in either the 1860 or 1870 census for Rush or Shelby Co. His name,
as you can imagine, gets misspelled and distorted and most records. I
found a Seelidge Hayes in the Shelby Co. 1860 census, since only the heads of
household are mentioned, does anyone have an idea as to how I can prove or
disprove that this guys name is actually Seelidge and not Salathiel? Salathiel's
name was recorded as Soullthe on his marriage cert. Thanks for any
ideas.
